English/Literacy
The children follow the National Literacy Strategy and are supported
by a wide range of resources, which are matched to the needs of
the children. The teaching staff aim to develop the children's literacy
skills to the highest possible standard, through an exciting and
stimulating programme. World Book Day is celebrated and Book Fairs
are held regularly. A new library has been established so that the
children have access to a wide range of reading materials.
Maths/Numeracy
We want the children to enjoy learning new skills in mathematics,
through practical challenges and problem-solving as well as through
more 'formal' numeracy lessons. They are expected to become confident
and competent mathematicians, understanding how to use numbers in
their everyday lives.
Science
Within the science curriculum emphasis is placed on the teaching
of scientific enquiry through the context of three study areas;
life processes and living things, materials and their properties
and physical processes. Science teaching encourages children to
develop their problem solving skills, by finding ways to answer
scientific questions. It also encourages them to reflect on and
evaluate what they have done.
Religious Education
RE teaching follows the South Gloucestershire agreed syllabus. This
aims to give children a wide understanding of Christianity and also
other world religions. Parents may ask to withdraw their child from
RE lessons for religious reasons. Children who are withdrawn will
be given alternative work in another class for that session.
Information and Communications Technology
The school has a well-equipped ICT suite, with 16 multi media computers,
each with internet access, for whole class lessons. Each class also
has a computer. We use an internet filtering system so that children
can only access appropriate websites. The children learn specific
IT skills and use ICT to enhance learning in all other curriculum
areas.
