Road Safety

The Castle Road car park is for the use of staff working on the premises and for official visitors to the school only. Please ensure your child keeps to the path on the opposite side of the road and does not walk across the car park or the entrance. The Westerleigh Road entrance is for deliveries and emergency vehicles only and should never be used by children or parents. Please park thoughtfully when picking up your child and do not park on the yellow zigzags or obstruct the school coaches or taxis. We understand that it can be difficult but it is a great opportunity to model responsibility and safety to the children.

We encourage all who live in Pucklechurch itself to walk to school.  It’s healthy, it teaches children road safety and provides time for young children to talk with whoever is accompanying them to school.  The Local Authority is currently working with us on some long term traffic measures to support safer travel to school. The crossing patrol person is on duty from 8.40 am and from 3.05 pm. There is no crossing patrol at lunchtime.
A shelter for parents is being fitted during February which will also have a space for bikes and scooters. We ask that children using bikes and scooters are supervised properly on their way to and from school and that they do not ride them when on school property for the safety of all children and adults.

Children in Year 6 have the opportunity to train for and take their Cycling Proficiency test in the Summer term.

Dropping off and Picking up children

For the safety and reassurance of all we have introduced some specific procedures:
All children in Reception to Year 5 must be brought into school by an adult. Children in Reception to Year 2 must be accompanied to the classroom door. Please do not ask siblings to be responsible for young children. Children in KS2 may be dropped off at the main school gate.
At the end of the day all children from Reception to Year 5 should be picked up from the classroom door. Classteachers will keep children in the classroom for up to 10 minutes after the bell. After this they will be taken to the office and wait in the foyer to be picked up. Children must not leave the school premises without an adult.
Y6 children are the only children who are given the extra responsibility of arriving and leaving school independently.

Bikes

Please could children ensure that bikes or scooters are not ridden on school grounds. This is to avoid any accidents with smaller pupils! Thank you.

Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act requires publicly funded bodies, including schools, to be clear about the information they publish. We have produced a publication scheme setting out all the information we publish on a regular basis and where to find it. Ask the school office to let you see the scheme or provide you with a copy free of charge.

Parking in the back car park

You will see that there are now orange signs on the back gate to request that this exit is not used by parents and pupils. The reason for this is that a few years ago an accident was narrowly avoided involving the school bus full of children. Thank you for keeping our school a safe environment for the children.
