Curriculum - The Arts

Music
Children enjoy practical music making in classes, learning about different aspects of music e.g. rhythm, texture, pitch. The school has a large supply of instruments which have recently been updated. We have an excellent visiting pianist who inspires children to sing. Each term a production is performed by a different age group in the school.

Art
In Reception children are encouraged to be creative by exploring a range of mediums and simple techniques, inspired by topic work. As they progress through the school, children use more complex techniques and develop skills to create a variety of imaginative 2D and 3D work. Children explore art by a variety of artists, craftspeople and designers. Children also experience art from different cultures through class and whole school projects.

Physical Education
The P.E. Curriculum is made up of three areas: games, gymnastics and dance. All children have a weekly opportunity to enjoy either gym or dance indoors and games or athletics outdoors. The school is well resourced with large and small apparatus. There is a varied selection of sports clubs on offer.

Swimming
The Local Authority now only pays for the hire of the pool and parents are asked to make a small weekly contribution towards the cost of transport to the pool. Swimming is taught either by an instructor from the pool or a member of the school staff.

Design & Technology
By investigating models and discussing real life problems the children are able to plan and make their own designs, ranging from moving cards to moving vehicles. They are also encouraged to work collaboratively to solve problems that are often related to other curriculum areas, such as designing a torch or making a model WW2 bomb shelter. The school has a cooking area where food technology activities can be enjoyed.
